Before we moved into our current home, there were deer living in our small orchard, I used tick tubes to help reduce tick population. We also installed a tall fence to keep deer out. Now that we have chickens, I don’t use tick tubes, because chickens eat ticks 🙌🏼 if you don’t have chickens, give tick tubes a try. 🔸 We live in a woodsy area and have lots of squirrels, birds, and rodents around. I do A LOT of outdoor work in our trees, garden, and lawn area. In the 7 years we’ve lived at our current home, I haven’t had a tick on me or my dogs. I keep our small lawn cut short and we have native, drought tolerant landscaping with lots of mulch so tall grass doesn’t grow. 🔸 I share all this to encourage you to be outside and enjoy nature. There are ways be outdoors and avoid ticks. The benefit of the outdoors to your brain and body are numerous and are worth overcoming fear of ticks! 🔸 #lymedisease #lymediseaseawareness #lymedontkillmyvibe #lymestats #overcomefear #gooutside #nature #garden #tickcontrol #ticktubes #chickenseatticks
Yes, on rainy and cloudy days I go outside to allow morning light into my eyes. 🌧 Even when it is not sunny, the light sends signals to your brain via the retina. I try my best to get out every morning around the same time. 30-60 minutes is optimal but even 5-10 minute can help increase melatonin production. Melatonin is a hormone that helps regulate our sleep/wake cycles and is a potent antioxidant. 🌧 How do I get 30-60 minutes of morning light? Having chickens helps! I usually do my “chicken chores” shortly after waking up and then I walk my dogs for 20-30 minutes after my chicken chores. 🌧 Another piece to maintaining optimal melatonin levels is blocking artificial blue light because it inhibits melatonin production. Blocking blue light is fairly simple and inexpensive. You can install a filter on your computer like f.Lux or Iris and use Nightshift or dark mode on your mobile device. Wear glasses, like Gunnar’s, while working indoors, and wear blue blocking glasses at night. 🌧 #naturalight #morninglight #sleepbetter #melatonin #antioxidants #sleep #blueblockers #nutritionist
This movie is streaming for FREE during the next 3 days! It does a wonderful job explaining the importance of avoiding GMO’s and glyphosate. WOW, so far May has been a busy month! I’ve been working on preserving 22 pounds of Meyer lemons, planting starts in our garden, leading my 2nd cleanse group, and I started a part time job with a non profit. 🤗 The first two photos are the lemon “candy” I made with some of our Meyer lemons - I sliced them, then dipped them in sugar, and dehydrated them. They are a perfect combo of sweet and tart! I love that you eat the peel with these, since the peel has potent cancer fighting nutrients. 🤗 The 3rd photo is a few of my starts that I grew from seed! I’m super excited for our garden this year. Having a green house made a huge difference! #lemons #meyerlemon #lemoncandy #preserve #dehydratedfruit #growyourown #homestead #homeorchard #garden #greenhouse #seedstarting #nutritionist
This is what healing looks like. A few years back, I probably would’ve been nervous to have baby goats climb on me because they “might” have a tick on them. Today, it didn’t even cross my mind. And if you’re wondering, baby goat yoga is totally worth $35! @kinderwood_farms #babygoats #kindergoats #babygoatyoga #kinderwoodfarms #yoga #lymedisease #overcome #lymediseaseawareness #healing #nutritionist @humblesea
Have you heard this recent news about sunscreen? A JAMA study tested sunscreen and found the four most common chemicals - avobenzone, oxybenzone, ecamsule and octocrylene - enter your blood stream in one day and remain at high levels for 24 hours after use. They also found the chemicals in breast milk. These chemicals have not be studied for safety and also damage coral reefs. ☀️ If you must use sunscreen, opt for zinc oxide, which is safer for you and nature. If I’m going to be exposed to the sun for long periods of time outside of water, I cover up, and if I’m in water for awhile, I’ll use a rash guard. When I do use sunscreen, I use a brand called 3rd Rock.
May is Lyme Disease awareness month, so I’ll be sharing more about Lyme. My goal in sharing is to bring awareness and not induce fear. One of many things I learned while I was getting better is that fear wasn’t going to help me recover. I’m sharing this graphic to let you know that Lyme IS everywhere but that shouldn’t keep you from going outdoors and enjoying nature. I’ll be sharing more what I do to protect myself and on how I was able to get over my fear of ticks. #lymedisease #lymewarrior #lymesdisease #may #ticks #overcome #remission
Healing....such a process but so worth it! This info graphic does a good job depicting what it takes to heal. Does this resonate with you too? I’m still working in the stress reduction aspect :) #health #healing #manypaths #findyourpath #patience #stressrelief #workinprogress #nutritionist
This is one of the best commentaries on why to buy UNWASHED eggs from pasture raised hens or from your neighbor, like me, that has hens! And it’s true, eggs in Europe are not washed or refrigerated. #Repost @slowdownfarmstead with @get_repost ・・・ On why you want shit on your eggs and other dirty deeds. Wanna’ know why I can keep my eggs on my counter for a month and they’re not rotten? Ever seen how many European countries sell their eggs on a shelf instead of the refrigerated section like in North America? It’s all about that bloom. Yup, bloom. Nature’s perfect little liquid sealer that comes via the hen to seal up and keep safe that porous little egg from all the bacteria and other microorganisms that would love to feast on it. But, here, under the illustrious wisdom of the USDA and Health Canada, we presume that every animal is sick and teaming with all sorts of bacteria just waiting to take us out. So, what if the animal is healthy, like really healthy? What if that animal spends its days under antibacterial, healing sunlight? And if it roams freely, eating all sorts of plant matter, organisms in healthy soil, bugs of all sorts? Do we consider that not all food is equal and perhaps consider that all these whack safety protocols may not apply if there’s nothing to be kept safe from? Commercially, eggs are washed and then put in a bleach/sanitizing bath. So you remove nature’s protective seal, impregnate the egg with cleaners that can now get through the porous shell, and then make the egg susceptible to quick spoilage. Hence the necessity of refrigerators. There’s a cost to a shiny egg. Instead, what if you tell your farmer not to wash your eggs? We take off poop clumps, but otherwise just wipe off our eggs with a cloth before eating. It’s pretty common in our parts to buy eggs “unwashed”. And on that note, I urge y’all to start considering the other practices spewed as gospel by government organizations that work to support big ag. I commonly leave meat out overnight and well into the next day. We eat produce from the garden with just a wipe so we don’t chew on grit, but otherwise get all those probiotics inherent in the soil.
